Raag Maalee Gauraa
Ang 984
1Raag Maalee Gauraa, Fourth Mehl:
2One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying. Beyond Birth. Self-Existent. By Guru's Grace:
3Countless have tried, but none have found the Lord's limit.
4The Lord is inaccessible, unapproachable and unfathomable; I humbly bow to the Lord God, my King. ||1||Pause||
5Sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment bring continual conflict and strife.
6Save me, save me, I am your humble creature, O Lord; I have come to Your Sanctuary, O my Lord God. ||1||
7You protect and preserve those who take to Your Sanctuary, God; You are called the Lover of Your devotees.
8Prahlaad, Your humble servant, was caught by Harnaakhash; but You saved Him and carried him across, Lord. ||2||
9Remember the Lord, O mind, and rise up to the Mansion of His Presence; the Sovereign Lord is the Destroyer of pain.
10Our Lord and Master takes away the fear of birth and death; following the Guru's Teachings, the Lord God is found. ||3||
11The Name of the Lord, our Lord and Master, is the Purifier of sinners; I sing of the Lord, the Destroyer of the fears of His devotees.
12One who wears the necklace of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, in his heart, O servant Nanak, merges in the Naam. ||4||1||
13Maalee Gauraa, Fourth Mehl:
14O my mind, chant the Name of the Lord, the Giver of peace.
15One who joins the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, and enjoys the sublime taste of the Lord, as Gurmukh, comes to realize God. ||1||Pause||
16By great good fortune, one obtains the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan; meeting with the Guru, the Lord God is known.
17The filth of evil-mindedness is totally washed away, bathing in the Lord's ambrosial pool of nectar. ||1||
18Blessed, blessed are the Holy, who have found their Lord God; I ask them to tell me the stories of the Lord.
19I fall at their feet, and always pray to them, to mercifully unite me with my Lord, the Architect of Destiny. ||2||
20Through the destiny written on my forehead, I have found the Holy Guru; my mind and body are imbued with the Guru's Word.
21The Lord God has come to meet me; I have found peace, and I am rid of all the sins. ||3||
22Those who follow the Guru's Teachings find the Lord, the source of nectar; their words are sublime and exalted.
23By great good fortune, one is blessed with the dust of their feet; servant Nanak falls at their feet. ||4||2||
Ang 985
1Maalee Gauraa, Fourth Mehl:
2All the Siddhas, seekers and silent sages, with their minds full of love, meditate on the Lord.
3The Supreme Lord God, my Lord and Master, is limitless; the Guru has inspired me to know the unknowable Lord. ||1||Pause||
4I am low, and I commit evil actions; I have not remembered my Sovereign Lord.
5The Lord has led me to meet the True Guru; in an instant, He liberated me from bondage. ||1||
6Such is the destiny God wrote on my forehead; following the Guru's Teachings, I enshrine love for the Lord.
7The Panch Shabad, the five primal sounds, vibrate and resound in the Court of the Lord; meeting the Lord, I sing the songs of joy. ||2||
8The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the Purifier of sinners; the unfortunate wretches do not like this.
9They rot away in the womb of reincarnation; they fall apart like salt in water. ||3||
10Please bless me with such understanding, O Inaccessible Lord God, my Lord and Master, that my mind may remain attached to the Guru's feet.
11Servant Nanak remains attached to the Name of the Lord; he is merged in the Naam. ||4||3||
12Maalee Gauraa, Fourth Mehl:
13My mind is addicted to the juice of the Lord's Name.
14My heart-lotus has blossomed forth, and I have found the Guru. Meditating on the Lord, my doubts and fears have run away. ||1||Pause||
15In the Fear of God, my heart is committed in loving devotion to Him; following the Guru's Teachings, my sleeping mind has awakened.
16All my sins have been erased, and I have found peace and tranquility; I have enshrined the Lord within my heart, by great good fortune. ||1||
17The self-willed manmukh is like the false color of the safflower, which fades away; its color lasts for only a few days.
18He perishes in an instant; he is tormented, and punished by the Righteous Judge of Dharma. ||2||
19The Lord's Love, found in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, is absolutely permanent, and colorfast.
20The cloth of the body may be torn to shreds, but still, this beautiful color of the Lord's Love does not fade away. ||3||
21Meeting with the Blessed Guru, one is dyed in the color of the Lord's Love, imbued with this deep crimson color.
22Servant Nanak washes the feet of that humble being, who is attached to the feet of the Lord. ||4||4||
23Maalee Gauraa, Fourth Mehl:
24O my mind, meditate, vibrate upon the Name of the Lord, the Lord of the World, Har, Har.
25My mind and body are merged in the Lord's Name, and through the Guru's Teachings, my intellect is imbued with the Lord, the source of nectar. ||1||Pause||
26Follow the Guru's Teachings, and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. Chant, and meditate, on the beads of the mala of the Lord.
27Those who have such destiny inscribed upon their foreheads, meet with the Lord, adorned with garlands of flowers. ||1||
28Those who meditate on the Name of the Lord - all their entanglements are ended.
29The Messenger of Death does not even approach them; the Guru, the Savior Lord, saves them. ||2||
30I am a child; I know nothing at all. The Lord cherishes me, as my mother and father.
31I continually put my hands into the fire of Maya, but the Guru saves me; He is merciful to the meek. ||3||
32I was filthy, but I have become immaculate. Singing the Lord's Praises, all sins have been burnt to ashes.
33My mind is in esctasy, having found the Guru; servant Nanak is enraptured through the Word of the Shabad. ||4||5||
34Maalee Gauraa, Fourth Mehl:
Ang 986
1O my mind, meditate, vibrate on the Lord, and all sins will be eradicated.
2The Guru has enshried the Lord, Har, Har, within my heart; I place my head on the Guru's Path. ||1||Pause||
3Whoever tells me the stories of my Lord God, I would cut my mind into slices, and dedicate it to him.
4The Perfect Guru has united me with the Lord, my Friend; I have sold myself at each and every store for the Guru's Word. ||1||
5One may give donations in charity at Prayaag, and cut the body in two at Benares,
6but without the Lord's Name, no one attains liberation, even though one may give away huge amounts of gold. ||2||
7When one follows the Guru's Teachings, and sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises, the doors of the mind, held shut by deception, are thrown open again.
8The three qualities are shattered, doubt and fear run away, and the clay pot of public opinion is broken. ||3||
9They alone find the Perfect Guru in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, upon whose foreheads such pre-ordained destiny is inscribed.
10Servant Nanak drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar; all his hunger and thirst are quenched. ||4||6|| Set of Six Hymns 1||

12Maalee Gauraa, Fifth Mehl:
13One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
14O mind, true peace comes from serving the Lord.
15Other services are false, and as punishment for them, the Messenger of Death bashes in one's head. ||1||Pause||
16They alone join the Sangat, the Congregation, upon whose forehead such destiny is inscribed.
17They are carried across the terrifying world-ocean by the Saints of the Infinite, Primal Lord God. ||1||
18Serve forever at the feet of the Holy; renounce greed, emotional attachment and corruption.
19Abandon all other hopes, and rest your hopes in the One Formless Lord. ||2||
20Some are faithless cynics, deluded by doubt; without the Guru, there is only pitch darkness.
21Whatever is pre-ordained, comes to pass; no one can erase it. ||3||
22The beauty of the Lord of the Universe is profound and unfathomable; the Names of the Infinite Lord are immunerable.
23Blessed, blessed are those humble beings, O Nanak, who enshrine the Lord's Name in their hearts. ||4||1||
24Maalee Gauraa, Fifth Mehl:
25I humbly bow to the Name of the Lord.

28Meditating on Him, one's bonds are untied.

32Meditating on Him, misfortune is avoided.
33Meditating on Him, sins are erased.
34Meditating on Him, agony is ended. ||2||
35Meditating on Him, the heart blossoms forth.
36Meditating on Him, Maya becomes one's slave.
37Meditating on Him, one is blessed with the treasures of wealth.
38Meditating on Him, one crosses over in the end. ||3||
39The Name of the Lord is the Purifier of sinners.
40It saves millions of devotees.
41I am meek; I seek the Sanctuary of the slaves of the Lord's slaves.
42Nanak lays his forehead on the feet of the Saints. ||4||2||
43Maalee Gauraa, Fifth Mehl:
44This is the sort of helper the Name of the Lord is.
45Meditating in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one's affairs are perfectly resolved. ||1||Pause||
46It is like a boat to a drowning man.
Ang 987
1It is like oil to the lamp whose flame is dying out.
2It is like water poured on the burning fire.
3It is like milk poured into the baby's mouth. ||1||
4As one's brother becomes a helper on the field of battle;
5as one's hunger is satisfied by food;
6as the cloudburst saves the crops;
7as one is protected in the tiger's lair;||2||
8As with the magic spell of Garuda the eagle upon one's lips, one does not fear the snake;
9as the cat cannot eat the parrot in its cage;
10as the bird cherishes her eggs in her heart;
11as the grains are spared, by sticking to the central post of the mill;||3||
12Your Glory is so great; I can describe only a tiny bit of it.
13O Lord, You are inaccessible, unapproachable and unfathomable.
14You are lofty and high, utterly great and infinite.
15Meditating in remembrance on the Lord, O Nanak, one is carried across. ||4||3||
16Maalee Gauraa, Fifth Mehl:
17Please let my works be rewarding and fruitful.
18Please cherish and exalt Your slave. ||1||Pause||
19I lay my forehead on the feet of the Saints,
20and with my eyes, I gaze upon the Blessed Vision of their Darshan, day and night.
21With my hands, I work for the Saints.
22I dedicate my breath of life, my mind and wealth to the Saints. ||1||
23My mind loves the Society of the Saints.
24The Virtues of the Saints abide within my consciousness.
25The Will of the Saints is sweet to my mind.
26Seeing the Saints, my heart-lotus blossoms forth. ||2||
27I dwell in the Society of the Saints.
28I have such a great thirst for the Saints.
29The Words of the Saints are the Mantras of my mind.
30By the Grace of the Saints, my corruption is taken away. ||3||
31This way of liberation is my treasure.
32O Merciful God, please bless me with this gift.
33O God, shower Your Mercy upon Nanak.
34I have enshrined the feet of the Saints within my heart. ||4||4||
35Maalee Gauraa, Fifth Mehl:
36He is with all; He is not far away.
37He is the Cause of causes, ever-present here and now. ||1||Pause||
38Hearing His Name, one comes to life.
39Pain is dispelled; peace and tranquility come to dwell within.

42Everything is contained in His home.
43No one is turned away empty-handed.
44He cherishes all beings and creatures.
45Forever and ever, serve the Merciful Lord. ||2||
46Righteous justice is dispensed in His Court forever.
47He is carefree, and owes allegiance to no one.
48He Himself, by Himself, does everything.
49O my mind, meditate on Him. ||3||
50I am a sacrifice to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
51Joining them, I am saved.
52My mind and body are attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
53God has blessed Nanak with this gift. ||4||5||
54Maalee Gauraa, Fifth Mehl, Dho-Padhay:

56I seek the Sanctuary of the all-powerful Lord.
57My soul, body, wealth and capital belong to the One God, the Cause of causes. ||1||Pause||
58Meditating, meditating in remembrance on Him, I have found everlasting peace. He is the source of life.
59He is all-pervading, permeating all places; He is in subtle essence and manifest form. ||1||
Ang 988

2With palms pressed together, Nanak begs for this blessing; please bless me with Your Name. ||2||1||6||
3Maalee Gauraa, Fifth Mehl:
4God is all-powerful, divine and infinite.
5Who knows Your wondrous plays? You have no end or limitation. ||1||Pause||
6In an instant, You establish and disestablish; You create and destroy, O Creator Lord.
7As many beings as You created, God, so many You bless with Your blessings. ||1||
8I have come to Your Sanctuary, Lord; I am Your slave, O Inaccessible Lord God.
9Lift me up and pull me out of the terrifying, treacherous world-ocean; servant Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||2||2||7||
10Maalee Gauraa, Fifth Mehl:
11The Lord of the World abides in my mind and body.
12Friend of the meek, Lover of His devotees, forever and ever merciful. ||1||Pause||
13In the beginning, in the end and in the middle, You alone exist, God; there is none other than You.
14He is totally permeating and pervading all worlds; He is the One and only Lord and Master. ||1||
15With my ears I hear God's Praises, and with my eyes I behold the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; with my tongue I sing the Lord's Glorious Praises.
16Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You; please, bless me with Your Name. ||2||3||8||6||14||
17Maalee Gauraa, The Word Of Devotee Naam Dayv Jee:
18One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
19Blessed, blessed is that flute which the Lord plays.
20The sweet, sweet unstruck sound current sings forth. ||1||Pause||
21Blessed, blessed is the wool of the sheep;
22blessed, blessed is the blanket worn by Krishna. ||1||
23Blessed, blessed are you, O mother Dayvakee;
24into your home the Lord was born. ||2||
25Blessed, blessed are the forests of Brindaaban;
26the Supreme Lord plays there. ||3||
27He plays the flute, and herds the cows;
28Naam Dayv's Lord and Master plays happily. ||4||1||
29O my Father, Lord of wealth, blessed are You, long-haired, dark-skinned, my darling. ||1||Pause||
30You hold the steel chakra in Your hand; You came down from Heaven, and saved the life of the elephant.
31In the court of Duhsaasan, You saved the honor of Dropati, when her clothes were being removed. ||1||
32You saved Ahliyaa, the wife of Gautam; how many have You purified and carried across?
33Such a lowly outcaste as Naam Dayv has come seeking Your Sanctuary. ||2||2||
34Within all hearts, the Lord speaks, the Lord speaks.
35Who else speaks, other than the Lord? ||1||Pause||
36Out of the same clay, the elephant, the ant, and the many sorts of species are formed.
37In stationary life forms, moving beings, worms, moths and within each and every heart, the Lord is contained. ||1||
38Remember the One, Infinite Lord; abandon all other hopes.
39Naam Dayv prays, I have become dispassionate and detached; who is the Lord and Master, and who is the slave? ||2||3||
