The Carpenter's Son
A modern narrative biography of Jesus of Nazareth, written for this site rather than translated from an ancient source. Drawing on the Gospels, Josephus, Roman and Jewish primary sources, and current historical scholarship, it reconstructs the world of first-century Galilee and Judea -- the village economy, the Roman occupation, the movement Jesus gathered, and the week that ended in his execution -- while carefully distinguishing what the evidence supports from where it runs out. Illustrated throughout with historical maps and plans of Galilee, Jerusalem, and the Temple precinct.
