The Tentmaker
A modern narrative biography of Paul of Tarsus, written for this site rather than translated from an ancient source, drawing primarily on Paul's own letters -- with the Acts of the Apostles read second and more cautiously where the two disagree -- alongside current historical scholarship. Presents Paul as a Jew who never converted away from Judaism, whose crisis at Damascus was a call rather than a guilt-driven reversal, and whose churches were substantially run by women. Illustrated throughout with period maps of Paul's missionary journeys and photographs of Tarsus, Corinth, Ephesus, Philippi, and Jerusalem.
